Social media marketing incorporates the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and so on to promote products or services to a wider audience.  The social aspect implies the exchange of thoughts, ideas and opinions platform members have when interacting with others.  

So when mixed together with a business marketing strategy, these products are services are introduced to consumers by way of social suggestion.  Most commonly in the form of a "share" or "like" to spread the contents of a post.  This gives social media marketing a very dynamic factor, given that posts that are popular with a certain social community can almost self promote themselves.

As you can see from the statistics below Facebook is out in front as the largest social media platform in terms of the number of active users.  While this list covers messaging services as well (such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and WeChat) social media marketing promotion is generally made on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok and so on where companies and individuals are allowed public profiles.
