What are Cookies

When visiting a website, sometimes it's useful to store preferences to remember what you have chosen.  Importantly, this information can be recalled when clicking from page to page or when returning to the website at a later date.  Your web browser will store this data in a file called a cookie.

Commonly a cookie won't store loads and loads of data.  Generally, a unique identification (ID) number will be stored and when you load the web page that ID will be sent to the webserver to retrieve the data stored in the website's database.  This may include browsing activity, IP address you access the website on, products added to your cart, website preference and much more.
